Candidly Sweet Children’s Illustration by Melani Sie Melani Sie, a.k.a. darkmello is a freelance children’s books illustrator from Surabaya, Jawa Timur, Indonesia, who creates wonderfully serene images. There is a lot of candid innocence and naiveté, even, in her work, and it reminds us all of how magical, albeit more simple, things used to be when we were young. Her work bears titles such as Pieces of Past or Afternoon Memories, and the fact that the artist is skilled at stories, too, is apparent in the mottos she chooses, such as “People say that if you meet the flying whales, good fortune will always be with you.” Her personal quote is also inspirational and motivational – “Give your BEST in everything you do, so that you live your life to the fullest, as God destined you to be.” She professes to liking “everything cute ‘n’ cool” and we can only hope that she gets commissioned for illustrating actual children’s books, so we can get to sample more of her deliciously sweet work.
